Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before you ask.
If your question is missing, call or write to us – we answer personally.
Is the casino included in the fare?
No. The fare covers the cruise line's services (cabin, meals as per fare, onboard programme). Gambling stakes in the casino are entirely separate and handled exclusively on board by the cruise line. We do not arrange gaming credit.
From what age can I visit the casino on board?
From 18, with valid ID. On ships departing from US ports the minimum age may be 21. The cruise itself can be booked for all ages; families are welcome.
When is the casino open?
Usually only at sea, outside territorial waters, and closed during port calls. The cruise line sets the exact hours and publishes them in the daily programme. Routes with more sea days mean longer opening hours.
Which currency is used on board?
Usually EUR or USD, depending on the cruise line. The onboard cashier informs you about exchange rates and fees. We recommend fixing a budget before the trip and taking only that.
Does my Swiss exclusion order apply on board?
No, not automatically. The ship's casino is subject to the law of the flag state, not the Swiss Gambling Act. Anyone excluded or self-excluded in Switzerland should avoid the ship's casino. Let us know – we will then leave any mention of casinos out of your advice.
How do I get from Switzerland to the port?
For Genoa, Savona, Venice and Marseille we recommend rail from Zurich HB, Basel SBB, Bern or Lugano – we quote the connection with the cruise. For Barcelona, Lisbon or Hamburg there are direct flights from Zurich, Basel and Geneva; from Basel also the ICE to Hamburg.
Are prices in CHF and is my money protected?
Yes. We quote in CHF including port taxes. Payments are protected by customer money insurance under the Swiss Package Travel Act (Art. 18 PRG); you receive proof with the booking confirmation.
Is a request already a booking?
No. The request is non-binding and free. You receive a written quote; a booking is made only when you confirm it. The cruise line's travel terms and our terms then apply.
Do you also advise in French or Italian?
Yes. Advice and documents are available in German, French, Italian and English. The onboard language depends on the cruise line; German is spoken on many Mediterranean ships.
Do I have to pay tax on casino winnings in Switzerland?
Winnings from gambling abroad may be subject to income tax in Switzerland. We do not give tax advice – please clarify your situation with the cantonal tax administration or a professional.
